The ballistic resistant armor core of the ABS-RF1 and ABS-RF2 are both made with Spectra Shield®, a material specifically engineered for individuals operating in the most demanding and high-risk environments. Utilizing Honeywell’s patented unidirectional Shield technology, Spectra Shield® significantly enhances ballistic performance, including superior stopping power, and is produced under a rigorous quality control system. Designed to meet extreme performance and weight specifications, Spectra Shield® offers some of the highest levels of protection available today. At the core of this material is Honeywell’s Spectra® fiber, an ultra-strong fiber that is up to 15 times stronger than steel by weight, yet light enough to float.

The fabric ABS armor core jacket is constructed from CORDURA® brand nylon, available in Mil-Spec color options. Originally developed for military body armor applications, CORDURA® Ballistic Fabric is made from high-tenacity woven nylon, offering exceptional durability and toughness. This densely woven fabric delivers an optimal strength-to-weight ratio, is water-repellent, and provides outstanding resistance to fading, abrasion, and tearing. Enhancing the durability of the armor even further, the outermost layer incorporates laser-cut 500D/1000D Squadron® laminated fabric from Brookwood, engineered for superior performance in demanding environments.

The patent-pending external two piece armor frame system is primarily constructed from KYDEX®, a high-performance thermoplastic known for its rigidity and versatility. KYDEX can be thermoformed into a wide variety of shapes, making it a popular choice in law enforcement for applications such as pistol holsters, ammunition magazine pouches, baton scabbards, and Taser® holsters. Highly durable, KYDEX is available in a broad selection of patterns, colors, textures, and grades. It can be vacuum-formed to precise specifications, allowing for a thinner and more streamlined profile compared to injection-molded alternatives. The material offers excellent dimensional stability and is easy to clean, resisting stains and fading. KYDEX products are engineered to meet stringent fire, smoke, and toxicity standards. Its unique value lies in its combination of acrylic’s formability and rigidity with the toughness and chemical resistance of polyvinyl chloride. With a Rockwell R hardness rating of 90, KYDEX stands out among thermoplastics for its exceptional strength and suitability across a wide range of demanding applications.
